GIS - 30 January, 2020: The Country Director, World Bank, Mr. Mark R. Lundell, discussed current areas of cooperation as well as potential avenues of collaboration between the World Bank and Mauritius during a courtesy call, this afternoon, on the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister of Rodrigues, Outer Islands and Territorial Integrity, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

Discussions also focused on emerging sectors of the economy such as the Ocean Economy where the World Bank is already providing assistance to Mauritius to boost the sector.

In a statement, the World Bank Country Director spoke of the various challenges lurking ahead of Mauritius adding that the World Bank is looking into possibilities for Mauritius to be an emerging investor in the African region with particular emphasis on the types of competitive challenges that the country is facing along with the possible solutions.

Mr Mark R. Lundell also dwelt on the Reimbursable Advisory Services Agreement for the sugarcane sector in Mauritius signed, this morning, with the Ministry of Agro-industry and Food Security for a competitiveness analysis of the sugarcane industry and the formulation of concrete actions for the way forward regarding the cane sector.
