CES Show—Ayla Networks’ Internet of Things (IoT) technology has enabled industry leader Hunter Fan Company to introduce Symphony and Signal, new Wi-Fi-enabled fans that mark the 130-year-old company’s entry into the connected home space. The fans, which support Apple HomeKit technology, can interact with other HomeKit-enabled products and allow homeowners to check on, program and control the fans wirelessly, from anywhere, using their iOS device or via a mobile app on their Android device.

Hunter Fan product designers worked with IoT experts from Ayla Networks to build—in less than six months—the cloud connection and mobile app that controls the new Symphony and Signal ceiling fans. The fast development time was possible because the Hunter team used Ayla IoT platform technology, including the Ayla Agile Mobile Application Platform (AMAP), which provides the software code—minus the functionality required to personalize and “skin” the app with individual branding—needed to create IoT mobile apps that are reliable, secure and high-performing.

“Ayla’s IoT platform allows manufacturers such as Hunter Fan to get secure, reliable connected products to market with minimal time, cost and effort,” said David Friedman, CEO and co-founder of Ayla Networks. “Our technology has allowed Hunter to provide consumers with affordable, innovative fans that provide added convenience, increased security and potential energy cost-savings compared to a standard ceiling fan.”

Homeowners can use the mobile app to control Symphony’s or Signal’s operating speed to optimize temperature and energy efficiency. They can also control the fans’ lights to enhance home security—such as turning lights on and off at night or when residents are away from home. The free mobile app can control one, two or even more fans in multiple rooms of a home—and enables the fans to interact with other Wi-Fi-enabled products, such as thermostats, light bulbs and smoke detectors.

“As the industry leader, we saw joining the connected home as a clear next step, but it was imperative that the technology was affordable, stylish and easy to use,” said Hunter Fan CEO John Alexander. “Our collaboration with Ayla Networks allowed us to develop Symphony and Signal quickly and provide our customers with state-of-the-art, Wi-Fi-enabled fans at an industry leading price.”

The Ayla IoT platform provides comprehensive device, cloud and mobile app connectivity for any kind of product. Ayla allows manufacturers to get secure, reliable connected products to market with minimal time, cost and effort—and to improve multiple aspects of their business based on the real-world knowledge gained from data generated by the connected devices.

The Symphony is a graceful, modern fan available in fresh white with an MSRP of $329. Signal, with a satin nickel housing and reversible wood-finished blades, is a contemporary blend of sleek design and classic finishes, with an MSRP of $379. Both fans will be available in spring 2016 from the Hunter Fan website; online from Amazon.com, Build.com, BestBuy.com, HomeDepot.com, Lowes.com and Menards.com; and in lighting showrooms nationwide.

At the annual CES show, to be held Jan. 6-9, 2016, in Las Vegas, Ayla will be in Booth #71153 at the Sands Expo Center.
