Government of New Brunswick : Job fair in Sussex to help workers laid-off from potash mine

SUSSEX (GNB) - The provincial government is holding a job fair from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, at the Sussex Regional High School to help workers laid-off by the Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan.

'We stand by our province's workers and want to connect them with jobs that will enable them to continue to work and live in New Brunswick,' said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Francine Landry. 'This job fair will be a unique opportunity for workers and their families to evaluate employment opportunities in the Sussex area and throughout the province.'

The department will offer services in the areas of education, employment, employment counseling and support at the fair. The event will provide an economically-feasible way for employers to recruit workers and for job seekers to establish a network of possible employers.

'Creating jobs, growing the economy and helping to make New Brunswick the best place to raise a family is an ongoing commitment of our government and is particularly important in Sussex at this time,' Landry said. 'Our department has been in regular contact with Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan to offer services to affected employees, including employment and personal counselling and help with career decision-making.'

The Sussex Job Fair 2016 is jointly sponsored by the department and the corporation.

Employers who wish to participate are invited to submit an 'Intent to Participate' by noon on Friday, Jan. 29. Submissions should be sent to Brian Ferris at the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour by email at [e-mail] or by phone at 506-643-6852.

The department has several employment offices located around the province. Staff can help jobseekers search for permanent employment, define career goals and make a plan to achieve them. The list of employment offices is available online.
