Ottawa, Ontario, January 6, 2016

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (the Tribunal) today found that the dumping and subsidizing of hot-rolled carbon steel plate and high-strength low-alloy steel plate, originating in or exported from the Republic of India and the Russian Federation have not caused and are not threatening to cause injury to the domestic industry. Anti-dumping and countervailing duties will therefore not be collected by the Canada Border Services Agency. The complainant in this case was Essar Steel Algoma Inc. of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

The Tribunal will issue the reasons for its finding on January 21, 2016.

The Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial body that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Finance. It hears cases on dumped and subsidized imports, safeguard complaints, complaints about federal government procurement and appeals of customs and excise tax rulings. When requested by the federal government, the Tribunal also provides advice on other economic, trade and tariff matters.

Any interested person, association or government that wishes to participate in the Tribunal's expiry review may do so by filing a Notice of Participation.
