WASHINGTON, Jan. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In conjunction with its Winter Leadership Weekend, Georgetown University Alumni Association (GUAA) will honor notable alumni this Friday, February 2nd at its Annual Service Recognition Awards Banquet in Washington, D.C. The Alumni Service Awards recognize individuals for their commitment of service to alumni, the university, and their communities.
One day earlier, members of GUAA's Board of Governors and Board of Regents, alumni leaders, and current students will gather in Washington, D.C. for a premiere, in-person networking event called Hoya Gateway Live. Hoya Gateway is an online platform that matches and connects students and alumni for career-related interactions and advice.
"Georgetown University is known for our renowned alumni, and this group of Alumni Service Award recipients are among the most accomplished in the nation," said Bill Reynolds, executive director, Georgetown University Alumni Association. "Aside from their considerable professional achievements, this year's honorees have demonstrated routinely their tremendous dedication to the Georgetown community."
GUAA's Board of Governors selected the following honorees:
- John W. Martin III of Washington, D.C., will receive the Apollonian Alumni Award for demonstrated exceptional efforts on behalf of the alumni of the School of Dentistry;
- Tamika Auguste of Columbia, Md., Deirdre Byrne of Washington, D.C., Nancy Ripp Clark of Potomac, Md., and Richard Nasca of Wilmington, N.C., will all receive the Founders Alumni Award, named for the founders of the Georgetown University School of Medicine and conferred upon alumni whose dedication to the medical school has been remarkable;
- Tammee Thompson of Philadelphia, Pa., and Eric Woods of Winchester, Mass., will receive the William Gaston Alumni Award, named for Georgetown's first student, which recognizes outstanding service by undergraduate alumni, who have exhibited leadership across many activities such as alumni clubs, class programs or participation in other university activities;
- Emily Holland Hull and Martin Kalin, both of Washington, D.C., will receive the 1820 Graduate Award for outstanding leadership and service by graduate alumni to their alma mater;
- Peter Mellen of Bethesda, Md., will receive the Reed Alumni Award, an honor conferred upon one member of the GUAA Board of Governors during the most recently completed fiscal year; and
- Alejandro Gonzalez-Lopez of Miami, Fla., will receive the Young Alumni Service Award, which recognizes outstanding leadership and service of a Georgetown undergraduate alumnus prior to his or her 15th reunion year.
