The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is reopening the rulemaking record for public comment and extending the comment period for the Agency's Request for Information on Exposure of Underground Miners to Diesel Exhaust published on June 8, 2016 (81 FR 36826).

In response to requests during the comment period, which closed on November 30, 2016, MSHA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health convened a Diesel Exhaust Health Effects Partnership (Partnership) with the mining industry, diesel engine manufacturers, academia, and representatives of organized labor to gather information regarding the complex questions contained in the RFI. During the comment period and at the Partnership's first meeting on December 8, 2016, stakeholders requested that the comment period remain open during the Partnership proceedings. In response to these requests, the rulemaking record will be reopened and the comment period will be extended to January 9, 2018.

The notice has been published in the Federal Register today, January 9, 2017. It is available for viewing at the Office of the Federal Register, Public Inspection Desk.
