Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the nation’s leading recycler of electronics and e-waste, has once again joined forces with the Broadway Green Alliance (BGA) for a local e-waste collection event to take place at the Gershwin Theatre breezeway at Times Square in New York City on February 4th.
As of the first of this year, it is now illegal to throw electronics in the trash in the state of New York, making it hard for some to know what to do with old gadgets they no longer use. This opportunity for New Yorkers to conveniently dispose of their unwanted electronics will take place on Wednesday, February 4th, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The event was originally scheduled for January 28th but was rescheduled due to weather.
Similar to the successful event staged last September when more than 8,800 pounds of electronic waste were collected, many of Broadway’s leading shows and stars are getting involved and encouraging fans of live theatre - and all residents of New York City in general - to take advantage of the opportunity to unload unwanted electronics while doing something good for the environment.
The event is free to the public and will take place right at the Gershwin Theatre breezeway connecting 50th and 51st streets on Broadway. Accepted items include computer equipment, televisions, mobile devices and even used Christmas lights.
The BGA, the five-year-old industry initiative that educates, motivates, and inspires the entire theatre community to adopt environmentally friendlier practices, has rallied the Broadway community to support the event. Off-Broadway shows, theatrical offices, and theatrical unions are also participating.

Shegerian added that ERI bins will also be available backstage at all the participating Broadway productions.
