United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Maria Dotsenko of Ukraine as Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Tehran, Iran. Ms. Dotsenko assumes her duties on 15 January.

Prior to her new appointment, Ms. Dotsenko served as a Public Information Officer at the Tehran Centre since April 2014, with responsibility for its day-to-day running as well as its outreach programmes and campaigns. Between 2009 and 2014, she was the Department of Public Information's representative in the United Nations Office in Yerevan, Armenia, where she was responsible for public information and communications activities.

From 2003 to 2009, Ms. Dotsenko worked with the missions of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to Belgrade and Skopje, and in Ukraine. She served in various capacities, including Spokesperson and Head of Press and Public Information, Press and Public Information Officer, as well as Media Adviser and Head of Media.

Having previously worked for the USAID (United States Agency for International Development) Regional Mission to Ukraine, Belarus and the Republic of Moldova between 1995 and 2003, Ms. Dotsenko also has experience in the private sector.

She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics from the Institute of Cybernetics of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and a master's degree in journalism from the Institute of Journalism at Kyiv State University, among other qualifications.
