Students at Duquesne will have the opportunity to learn real-life cooking skills-including how to prepare easy, cost-saving, healthy recipes-from a real-life expert, University Executive Chef Tim Fetter of Parkhurst Dining.

'Our goal is to provide students with essential kitchen skills to make some basic meals while staying within their food budget,' explained Parkhurst Marketing Manager Carrie MacDonald.

The hands-on cooking class will be held from 9 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, at the City View Café on the 6 floor of the Duquesne Union.

Sponsored by the Duquesne Program Council, the class was developed after members of the student-run council approached Parkhurst about helping students learn how to cook with simple and inexpensive ingredients in their on- or off-campus apartments.

Chef Fetter will teach students how to prepare a variety of easy-to-make recipes, including:

  • Huevos Rancheros-a tortilla with beans, cheese, salsa and a poached egg
  • Coffee Mug French Toast
  • Coffee Cake
  • Ham and Spinach Quiche
  • Potato Crusted Salmon.

Students who attend the class will receive a kitchen starter kit that includes the recipes they prepared, giving them the culinary know-how and encouragement to start cooking on their own.

Media interested in attending/covering the cooking class are asked to call Carrie MacDonald at 412.913.5777 to RSVP and arrange free parking.
