Engineering for the project is expected to be complete by the end of January.

Dakota Gasification Company - January 15, 2016

Progress on the new urea facility at Dakota Gasification Company 's Great Plains Synfuels Plant is becoming more visual every day, as equipment arrives and structures are erected.

Jim Greer, Basin Electric senior project manager, said the $500 million project continues on budget and on schedule to be complete and producing urea, diesel exhaust fluid and liquefied carbon dioxide by the second quarter of 2017.

'The project is being completed safely, as well, with excellent housekeeping on the project site and minimal incidents recorded,' Greer said.

About 400 construction workers are now on site tackling the project, according to Greer. The engineering for the project is expected to be complete by the end of January.

Model reviews continue as Dakota Gas employees Daren Eliason, Sara Edinger and Joey Nelson recently returned from Salt Lake City, UT, where they spent a few days completing the final review on the materials handling facility plans at the Millcreek offices.

'Several issues were noted and will be corrected, but overall the materials handling facility appears to be very well designed,' Greer said.

Procuring and delivery of equipment is also moving along as Greer said about 70 percent of the equipment has now been delivered to the construction site at the Synfuels Plant.

'We set the stripper delivered last month and recently received the carbon dioxide compressor,' Greer said. 'We will be seeing a large volume of equipment delivered in January, as well.'

Rory Hochsprung was named commissioning manager, and will work closely with Lucas Teigen, who was recently named the onsite Basin Electric/Dakota Gas construction manager for the project.

Hochsprung and Teigen will work closely with contractors throughout the duration of the project to coordinate and plan all construction and tie-ins to the Synfuels Plant, bring equipment online and commission the new facility.

'We are excited to have Lucas and Rory as part of our construction team,' Greer said. 'They both bring positive energy and significant experience to the project.'
