Catherine Cortez Masto : Cortez Masto Applauds EPA Grant to Reduce Harmful Emissions in Nevada

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) applauded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for awarding a Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) grant to Nevada to help curb harmful pollution from large diesel sources.

'Thanks to innovation and new technologies, we now have the ability to produce cleaner diesel and reduce harmful pollution,' said Cortez Masto. 'It is vital that we invest in projects like these to protect the air we breathe and support Nevada's growing clean energy industry. This grant is a great example of how we can continue to make Nevada a leader in clean energy, create green jobs, and grow our economy, all while protecting our environment.'

BACKGROUND:

Nevada Division of Environmental Protection was awarded a $348,002 grant to replace six old diesel public works trucks and six old diesel school buses with new vehicles with new engines.

The DERA program is administered by EPA's West Coast Collaborative, a clean air public-private partnership that leverages public and private funds to reduce emissions from the most polluting diesel sources in impacted communities in West Coast states and U.S. Territories.
