OTTAWA--Canadian producer prices advanced in November, largely powered by higher costs to purchase chemicals.

Canada's industrial product price index rose 0.8% in November from the previous month, Statistics Canada said Tuesday. In the previous month, producer prices climbed by a revised 1.6%.

On a 12-month basis, the producer-price index advanced 18.1%.

The index measures the price manufacturers in Canada receive once their goods leave the plant. It doesn't reflect the final prices consumers pay for goods on store shelves. In November, annual inflation in Canada rose 4.8%, an 18-year high.

Prices for raw materials, which track prices paid by manufacturers, fell 1% in November after a 4.8% gain in the previous month. On a 12-month basis, prices for raw materials climbed 36.2%.
