Corn Producers Association of Texas (CPAT) President Joe Reed, a farmer from Kress, Texas, congratulates former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue on his nomination to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

'CPAT welcomes the news of Gov. Perdue's nomination as Secretary of the USDA. Growing up on a diversified crop and dairy farm, and with exhaustive experience in recent years in the grain industry, he is primed to bring a valuable perspective to the agency.'

'Our organization is hopeful that Gov. Perdue's personal, diverse experience with the industry will enable him to lead the agency that is essential to securing the future of the nation's agricultural industry. USDA plays a crucial role in securing quality food, fiber, fuel and goods for every American: having someone at its helm that understands the industry and its impact will be beneficial to both rural and regional economies, as well as our country as a whole.'
