CBS warns public to be more vigilant as latest scam surfaces via WhatsApp

The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) is once again cautioning the public about communicating with people on social media, particularly with individuals unknown to them. This is now that a new scam mentioning the CBS and using the institution's logo has emerged.

The CBS has received notification of a message being circulated via WhatsApp, reportedly from Airtel Telecom Seychelles, advising users that they have won Rs.1 million to be collected from the Central Bank of Seychelles.

The CBS is not aware of the origin of this message and advises the public that the institution is not presently collaborating with Airtel or any other service provider on promotions of this nature. CBS, therefore, urges the public not to contact the number provided in the message and is forwarding the matter to the attention of the Seychelles Police.

The CBS is concerned with the increasing number of scams purporting to be communication from or linked to the institution and is calling on the public to be vigilant and refrain from responding to such messages, to avoid falling prey to such criminal acts.
