ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bloomberg BNA today announced that Stephen M. Cordi and Ray N. Stevens are the recipients of its 2016 state tax awards, which were presented at a recent ceremony in New York City. Cordi was named the recipient of the Bloomberg BNA Franklin C. Cordi, whose nearly four decade career included chairing the Multistate Tax Commission for several years, received the award, which is given annually to a distinguished state tax practitioner and is named for Franklin C. Latcham, the first Chairman of Bloomberg BNA's State and Local Tax Advisory Board. Cordi served over thirty years with Maryland's Office of the Comptroller, concluding his tenure as Deputy Comptroller, and subsequently was deputy chief financial officer the District of Columbia's Office of Tax and Revenue.

"Steve's reputation for integrity, directness, and reliability made him extremely valuable first to the people of Maryland and then to the people of the District of Columbia," said Arthur Rosen, the Chairman of Bloomberg BNA's State Tax Advisory Board and a Partner at McDermott, Will & Emery LLP. "As the top tax official in both states, Steve earned the respect not only of those he directly served, but also of those throughout the state and local tax community who benefited from such an individual being part of that community. His service in tax administrator organizations is also deserving of recognition."

"We are delighted to recognize Steve's exceptional contributions in the field of state and local taxation," said George Farrah, Editorial Director, Bloomberg BNA's Tax & Accounting division. "Not only did Steve effectively restore public confidence in the D.C. tax office following the post-government theft scandal, he also safeguarded taxpayer identities and successfully battled fraudulent returns. He has been a true leader in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. tax community."

Previous recipients of the Latcham Award include Joe Huddleston, R. Bruce Johnson, Paul Frankel, Marilyn A. Wethekam, Richard D. Pomp, Judge Bill Thompson, Prentiss Willson, and Walter Hellerstein.

The inaugural Bloomberg BNA State Tax Author of the Year award was presented to Stevens for his work on the South Carolina Corporate Income Tax Portfolio. The result of his efforts is a comprehensive analysis of the key compliance issues facing corporations.

Stevens is a partner with Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, where he leads the firm's State & Local Tax practice. He also served as Director of the South Carolina Department of Revenue and as judge for the South Carolina Administrative Law Court.

"We are excited that Ray is this year's recipient of our State Tax Author of the year award for his work on South Carolina Corporate Income Tax," said Farrah.
