Health Department Announces 20 New Food Establishments in December 2015

PITTSBURGH - The Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) announced today that 20 food establishments opened in Allegheny County over the last month, including twelve restaurants, one confectionary, four coffee houses, one convenience store, one caterer, and a specialty foods store. "The key to a healthy diet is choosing foods that have more good fats than bad fats, or trans fats," said Health Department Director, Dr. Karen Hacker. "As part of our county-wide commitment to promoting individual and community wellness, we also look at and highlight those facilities that use trans fat-free cooking oils. We see more restaurants taking that step toward living well. This past month, three of the twelve eateries that opened cook with these healthier oils." Those facilities using trans fat-free cooking oils are: Rupe's Roadhouse, 325 Camp Horne Road, Kilbuck Morcilla, 3519 Butler Street, Pittsburgh (Lawrenceville neighborhood) Muddy Waters Oyster Bar, 130 South Highland Avenue, Pittsburgh (East Liberty neighborhood) The other new restaurants are: Whitfield, 120 South Whitfield Street, Pittsburgh (East Liberty neighborhood) Anthony's Pizza, 1820 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh (Carrick neighborhood) First Watch, 9176 Covenant Avenue, McCandless Le Petit Chocolat & Café, 2004 East Carson Street, Pittsburgh (South Side neighborhood) Benny Fierro's, 1906 East Carson Street, Pittsburgh (South Side neighborhood) J & M Deli II, 226A Center Road, Monroeville AFAMIA, 663 Washington Road, Mt.
