Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP : John Sununu Quoted in Natural Gas World on Trump’s Likely Actions on Energy

John Sununu, an adjunct senior policy advisor at Akin Gump and former U.S. senator from New Hampshire, has been quoted in the Natural Gas World article 'Trump Presidency Likely to Act Fast on Energy: ex-Senator.' The article is based on comments Sununu made at Akin Gump's recent energy briefing, 'The Global Energy Industry: A Look to the Year Ahead in 2017.'

Sununu said President-elect Donald Trump is likely to move very quickly on the legislative front with regard to energy. He anticipates a broadening of the areas available to drill for oil and gas, as well as allowing for more flaring of methane on federal lands, a change in the regulations on waste water from hydraulic fracturing and new incentives to develop infrastructure. Sununu also said tax and job creation in the form of infrastructure projects were other areas Trump will tackle fast.

Additionally, Sununu predicted there would be a serious effort to repeal the Clean Power Plan through new law making. With Democratic senators in coal-producing states facing re-election in 2018, he does not think they would want to go on the record as voting for measures that would lead to, what he says, would be a reduction in jobs in that sector.

Speaking about Trump's cabinet picks, Sununu said he thought the nomination of Rex Tillerson to be secretary of state could be in doubt if a few Republican senators vote against him.
