'Cabinet's decision yesterday to approve the Yeelirrie uranium project is more positive news for Australia's uranium industry and its investors,' said Simon Bennison, Chief Executive Officer, Association of Mining and Exploration Companies.

'Four uranium projects have received approval in Western Australia. Together they could create a billion dollar a year export industry and 1,500 jobs.

'Yesterday's decision is more great news for WA uranium companies, particularly in view of the current WA Government being pro-uranium development.

'WA Labor is clearly on record that it will not approve any new uranium mines, but will allow those under construction or final State approvals to proceed.

'The four uranium projects that have been approved in WA will be able to proceed unhindered subject to the company's price and funding decisions.

'It is critical that Western Australia maintains its current pro-uranium exploration and mining policy in line with South Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory,' said Mr Bennison.
