Washington, D.C. - Today, AGA President and CEO Karen Harbert released the following statement about the ongoing unrest in the District of Columbia:

'What we are seeing today in Washington, DC is a horrible and dangerous affront to democracy in our nation. Distinct opinions and valid debates should always have the room to be voiced and heard, but today we have seen an escalation beyond differing views and opinions to violence and discord in the U.S. Capitol.

I am so appreciative of the work by our first responders at the Capitol and in the Washington, DC area every day, and today more than ever, I hope for their safety as they work to ensure the safety of all those in and around the Capitol.

Our nation is strong, and I have confidence good will prevail.'
