Thomas J. Handler

Dr. Handler, M.D., is a research director with Gartner's Research organization.
His primary research occurs in the delivery systems applications and vendors service area although he also writes for the healthcare executive and management service area.
Dr. Handler focuses on clinical applications, specifically the computer-based patient record and its supporting functionality, such as speech recognition, clinical decision support and controlled medical vocabularies.
Prior to joining Gartner, Dr. Handler was on staff at the Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he participated in healthcare systems selection and software implementation.
Dr. Handler earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Yale University, where he also completed his residency training, nuclear medicine fellowship and medical informatics fellowship
