Profile

Prior to joining Cherokee in 2005, Ms. Berio was the Executive Director of the Caribbean Environmental Development Institute, a nonprofit organization that manages environmental initiatives in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
Ms. Berio also worked as an Associate with Fiddler González & Rodríguez, P.S.C., one of the largest law firms in the Caribbean and Latin America.
Prior thereto, she served as a law clerk for the U.S.
Department of Justice, Environment and Natural Resources Division, Environmental Enforcement Section in Washington D.C.
As a law clerk, Ms. Berio assisted in civil enforcement, trial preparation and negotiation of complex cases associated with the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA).
Ms. Berio’s publications include Puerto Rico Environmental Law Handbook, third edition, and the Guidelines for Compliance with Environmental Law in Puerto Rico.
Ms. Berio received a BS in environmental science from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, and a JD and Master of Law in environmental law from Vermont Law School in South Royalton, Vermont.
