The Society of Professional Journalists is a broad-based journalism organization that has been improving and protecting journalism since 1909. The Society of Professional Journalists is based in Indianapolis, IN, and has local chapters and regional coordinators. The organization encourages the free practice of journalism and stimulates high standards of ethical behavior. It offers discounted services for members, resources, and missions such as advocacy, awards, diversity, ethics, freedom of information, freelancing, journalism training, and jobs. It hosts events and deadlines, including the SPJ23 convention, which is dedicated to empowering journalism. The organization also offers scholarships, such as the Dori Maynard Diversity Leadership Program and the Terry Harper Memorial Scholarship, and has a shop where supporters can purchase water bottles, stickers, hats, tote bags, t-shirts, hoodies, and more.
