Banif Gestión SGIIC SA (BG) is the Madrid-based subsidiary of Santander Private Banking Gestion SA SGIIC, itself a subsidiary of Banco Santander SA (NYSE: STD) in Spain. The firm was created in 1962 as Banif de Inversiones y Finanzas, an investment consultants office. In 1989 Banif became Banco Banif de Gestión Privada and assumed the legal structure of a bank. In 1999, after the Santander-Central Hispano merger, the group joined the private banking units, BSN and Banco Banif, creating Banco BSN BANIF. BG is Grupo Santander's private banking unit specializing in wealth management for high-net worth individuals. In addition to the Madrid headquarters, the bank has a network of offices throughout Spain.
