Florian Trauner

Dr. Florian Trauner is an Economist at European University Institute.
He holds the Jean Monnet Chair EXACT (Explaining EU Action in Counter-Terrorism) and is the Director of the VUB’s Master Programme on European and International Governance.
He is also a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, where he teaches a course on EU migration policies (with Sandra Lavenex).
His research interests concern EU justice and home affairs (in particular migration, asylum, return and counter-terrorism policies), linkages between European home affairs policies and foreign affairs/external relations, and dynamics of EU decision-making.
He has implemented different research project focusing on the Western Balkans and West Africa.
He is a graduate of the Universities of Vienna and Copenhagen, he received his PhD in 2008 and his habilitation in 2015.
