Ms. Berte was appointed to the CalPERS Board in January 2005 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to serve as the Board's insurance industry representative.
Her term expires in January 2009.
Ms. Berte has extensive experience in the insurance industry and public service.
Since 1998, she has been Vice President of the California State Automobile Association (CSAA), the American Automobile Association affiliate for Northern California, Nevada, and Utah, where she currently oversees business and technology transformation projects.
The CSAA is one of the largest auto and home insurers in California, serving more than 4 million members and writing more than $2.5 billion of insurance.
From 1991 to 1998, Ms. Berte served in Governor Pete Wilson's administration, initially as the Governor's first legislative and policy advisor on insurance issues, and later as Director of the California Department of Consumer Affairs, the State's largest regulatory agency which oversees 38 regulatory programs.
Prior to her public service appointments, Ms. Berte served in a variety of positions within the insurance industry, including a 10-year stint as Executive Vice President of the Professional Insurance Agents of California and Nevada, a trade association that represented thousands of insurance agents.
In addition, Ms. Berte has served on nine private and public sector boards and commissions, including being the Governor's appointee to the State Little Hoover Commission and the California Managed Health Care Improvement Task Force, the Governor's representative on the California Earthquake Authority Governing Board, and the State Interagency Coordinating Council for Early Childhood Development.
Ms. Berte is a graduate of Stanford University.
