The Lincoln Academy of Illinois is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization established in 1964 that honors citizens whose professional achievements and public service reflect the principles of Abraham Lincoln. The non-profit company is based in Springfield, IL. It annually elects distinguished individuals as laureates who receive the Order of Lincoln, the state's highest award, at formal convocation ceremonies often held in partnership with universities. The academy has recognized over 350 laureates from fields such as government, law, business, arts, science, education, social services, and sports. It also runs the Student Laureate Award Program, which recognizes exceptional senior students from four-year degree-granting institutions with the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award. The academy is governed by regents, trustees, and the governor as president, maintains a hall of fame of historic Illinoisans, and organizes annual convocations featuring award presentations and public recognition. Funding comes from event revenues, donations, and member contributions, and its activities and honorees are publicized through televised programs and a comprehensive website.
