Their equity funds focus on a limited number of securities so that each holding can impact performance. Thornburg's equity team searches for firms that are believed to have a promising future and they seek to buy shares of those companies at a discount to their intrinsic value. On the fixed-income side, the firm conducts fundamental, bottom-up research to identify bonds they believe provide the best return for a given level of risk.

OFI focuses on delivering long-term results through active management and seeing opportunities where others may not. The firm’s methods of security analysis may include economic analysis, fundamental analysis, technical analysis, quantitative analysis and top-down analysis. OFI’s investment strategies may also be guided by (a) the investment objectives, policies, strategies, and restrictions set forth in an advisory or sub-advisory agreement, (b) any offering document or other governing document applicable to a client for whom OFI provides advisory services, and (c) applicable legal and regulatory requirements. OFI offers investment strategies in the following broad asset classes: equities, fixed income, alternatives and multi-asset. Equities include main street equity, small and mid cap growth equity, value and income equity, emerging markets equity and global equity. Fixed income has investment grade debt, high yield corporate debt, global debt, Rochester municipals, multi-sector fixed income and cash strategies. Alternatives asset class includes alternative strategies, real estate, gold and special minerals and global infrastructure securities.

The firm's portfolio managers, research specialists and traders are organized into teams by asset class. SCM provides several different investment approaches to both its international and domestic equity portfolios. For its capital appreciation equity management, the firm emphasizes current economic environment and secular themes. In particular, long-term economic trends, Federal Reserve policy and market liquidity serve as a macroeconomic backdrop to the overall direction of the markets. For equity stock selection, disciplined, fundamental research with emphasis on the following characteristics are practiced: strong fundamentals, accelerating earnings and sales, accelerating return on equity, expanding market share, low cost producers, quality management and positive earnings surprises. Its bottom-up security analysis emphasizes management, cash flow, earnings growth, balance sheet strength, competitive position, discounted cash flow and relative p/e ratio.
