BMT was established in 2003 and is headquartered in Erfurt, the capital of Land Thüringen in central Germany. The firm invests on behalf of the German government, and is backed by Land Thüringen. They originally received capital from TBG-Technologie Beteiligungs GmbH as well. TBG is a Bonn-based private equity entity part of the government-controlled KfW Bankengruppe.
