ERFURT (dpa-AFX) - Amid an ongoing wage dispute at the Erfurt logistics center of online retailer Zalando, the Verdi trade union has called for a warning strike. Despite initial actions taken in April and May--the first in the twelve-year history of Zalando's Erfurt site--management has so far shown no willingness to negotiate, Verdi stated in Erfurt.

The dispute centers on securing a collective bargaining agreement for Zalando employees. As a result, a third warning strike is planned for this Tuesday, beginning with the early shift and extending to both late and night shifts. The union is demanding that the company recognize the collective wage agreements for retail and mail-order sectors in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia.

According to these agreements, wages for warehouse employees are approximately 15 percent higher than those currently paid by Zalando. In addition, the contracts include higher bonuses, shorter weekly working hours, contractual pension schemes, and other improvements. The union pointed to Zalando's strong business performance as justification for its demands. Several thousand workers are employed at the logistics center.
