Uber Technologies today announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Baidu, a Chinese technology group specializing in AI and autonomous driving, to deploy thousands of Baidu's Apollo Go autonomous vehicles on the Uber platform in several global markets outside the United States and mainland China.

The collaboration aims to increase the availability of affordable and reliable ride-sharing solutions by integrating Baidu's advanced autonomous vehicles into Uber's extensive network.

The first deployments are expected in Asia and the Middle East by the end of the year. After launch, if a passenger books an eligible Uber ride, they may be offered a ride in a fully driverless Apollo Go autonomous vehicle.

As the world's first autonomous on-demand transportation service, Apollo Go operates an operational fleet of over 1,000 fully autonomous vehicles in 15 cities, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
