Steel company SSAB's collaboration with Saint-Gobain to use steel ladle slag is moving forward, according to a press release.

Saint-Gobain's slag processing plant in Raahe is currently under construction and will be completed in 2025. SSAB, for its part, will transform its own slag processing process and invest in related solutions such as cooling and logistics. SSAB's investment is worth around €2 million, while Saint-Gobain's investment is around €12 million.

"This project supports our ambition to be a pioneer in sustainable steel production. SSAB has made a policy decision to convert all its production facilities to fossil-free steel production. Already at this stage, it is important to ensure that also future by-products are utilized as efficiently as possible, and this project is part of this development work", says Marko Mäkikyrö, Head of SSAB's By-Products Business.
