This morning Saint-Gobain announced the launch of ultra-low carbon footprint (scope 1 & 2) glass wool production at its Isover site in Forssa, Finland. This plant is the lowest carbon plant in the world.
The Forssa plant now runs exclusively on carbon-free energy, thanks to the installation of three pressurized biogas tanks.
"Biogas now accounts for 50% of the energy used by the site, with the remaining 50% supplied by hydroelectricity," the group said.
The new equipment will prevent the emission of 1,500 tons of CO₂ per year.
"This new achievement is a concrete illustration of Saint-Gobain's ambition to be carbon neutral by 2050," it said.
