HEESLINGEN (dpa-AFX) - The laying of cables for the Suedlink electricity highway has begun in Lower Saxony. "With the cable laying, Suedlink is becoming a reality kilometer by kilometer," said Tim Meyerjürgens, manager at the operator Tennet. The cable work will start in Heeslingen in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme), and construction will begin along the entire route next year.
The approximately 700-kilometer-long route will transport green electricity from the windy north to southern Germany. Suedlink is expected to supply up to ten million households. The first electricity could flow at the end of 2028.
The power line runs through six federal states: from Schleswig-Holstein via Lower Saxony, Hesse and Thuringia to Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. One of the direct current lines starts in Brunsbüttel (Dithmarschen district) and ends in Leingarten (Heilbronn district), while the other connection runs from Wilster (Steinburg district) to Bergrheinfeld (Schweinfurt district)./miu/DP/mis
