RIESA/BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - Demolishing wind turbines in Germany would cause major economic damage from the perspective of the German Offshore Wind Energy Association. At the AfD party conference in Riesa, the party's chancellor candidate, Alice Weidel, said to great applause: "When we are in power, we will tear down all wind turbines. Down with these windmills of shame."
The German Wind Energy Association Offshore supports wind farms in the North and Baltic Seas. It emphasized that renewable energies and climate protection technology are crucial for the competitiveness of the German economy. If other countries become market leaders here, jobs would be at risk
Association managing director Stefan Thimm criticized the AfD for accepting Germany's economic decline. "Withdrawal from the euro, rejection of the EU, nationalism instead of open borders and no support for free trade agreements – the list is long and alarming." The AfD's proposals would strengthen Germany's dependence on gas and oil, Thimm said, and Russian leader Vladimir Putin would be the beneficiary.
Last year, renewable energies such as wind and solar accounted for almost 60 percent of Germany's electricity generation. Germany has recently been building more and more wind turbines from year to year. The future US president, Donald Trump, recently called for the wind turbines in the North Sea to be dismantled./bf/DP/mis
