PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad has announced the redesignation of Datuk Sazali Bin Hamzah from Non-Executive Director to Non-Executive Chairman, effective January 1, 2025. Datuk Sazali Bin Hamzah, aged 58, currently the Executive Vice President, PETRONAS and Chief Executive Officer of Downstream Business. He also holds various positions as Chairman/Director of various companies within PETRONAS Group.
He was previously the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad from 8 May 2014 to 31 December 2021. He was also the MD/CEO, PETRONAS Penapisan (Melaka) Sdn Bhd and held various positions in PETRONAS including Senior General Manager of Group Technology Solutions, Head of Project Management and Delivery, & various senior management positions through roles in the refinery and petrochemical business. Datuk Sazali holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Lamar University, USA, and has completed the Senior Management Program at London Business School, London,United Kingdom and the Advanced Management Programme at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.
He also have Professional Qualification in Chartered Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) from Chartered Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). The Board of Directors had on 13 December 2024 approved the appointment of Datuk Sazali Hamzah as the Chairman of the Company with effect from 1 January 2025 in place of Datuk Ir. (Dr.) Abdul Rahim Hashim.
