Lockheed Martin has announced that its Sikorsky subsidiary is testing a new Vertical Take-Off and Landing Unmanned Aircraft System (VTOL/UAS) with a dual-engine "rotor-blown wing" configuration.

These tests aim to demonstrate the effectiveness of this technology for long-endurance missions such as surveillance.

Supporting DARPA's Ancillary initiative, Sikorsky is developing a Class 3 VTOL X-Plane UAS capable of operating in a variety of weather conditions without infrastructure. If its project is selected, Sikorsky plans to create a hybrid-electric version.
