The Romanian government has signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance for the purchase of 32 5th generation F-35 Lightning II fighter jets through a foreign military sale with the USA.
The acquisition is aimed at strengthening Romania's national defense and NATO deterrence capabilities.
Lockheed Martin, Romania's defense partner for 30 years, said the decision consolidates Romania's national security.
The F-35s, compatible with the existing F-16 fleet, will benefit from local infrastructure, such as the European F-16 Training Center in Romania, to ensure an effective transition and training.

Net sales break down by source of income into sales of products (83.3%) and services (16.7%).
Net sales are distributed geographically as follows: the United States (74.3%), Europe (9.5%), Asia/Pacific (8.3%), Middle East (5.8%) and other (2.1%).
