Renault said it will consider all options in the best interest of the group and shareholders as it acknowledged the statement by Honda and Nissan saying they planned to merge in 2026.
The French car maker said Monday that it continues to execute its strategy and roll-out projects that create value for the group.
The company was responding to the announcement earlier Monday that Honda and Nissan plan to create an automaker that, combined with Nissan-partner Mitsubishi Motors, would be the third-largest carmaker in the world.
Detailing plans they first disclosed last week, the carmakers said they aimed to reach a definitive agreement next June and create a listed holding company in August 2026 that would wholly own Nissan and Honda as subsidiaries.
Renault owns 35.7% of Nissan's issued share capital according to FactSet.
