MUNICH (dpa-AFX) - BMW CEO Oliver Zipse has criticized the EU's plans for tariffs on e-cars from China. This "is the wrong way to go. The EU Commission is harming European companies and European interests," said Zipse on Wednesday. Protectionism could set a spiral in motion, he said, with tariffs leading to new tariffs and isolation. "From the BMW Group's point of view, protectionist measures such as the introduction of import tariffs do not help us to compete on international markets."
BMW also builds the electric SUV BMW iX3 and the electric Mini Cooper in China for the European market. Conversely, BMW exports the 4, 6, 7, i7 and 8 models from Dingolfing in Lower Bavaria to China.
