-- Apple is preparing to launch an in-house series of cellular modem chips, replacing components from its longtime partner and competitor Qualcomm, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
-- The system is slated to debut next spring as part of the iPhone SE -- the tech giant's entry-level smartphone, which will be updated next year for the first time since 2022, according to the report.
-- Future generations of the chips will grow increasingly more advanced, with Apple hoping to eventually overtake Qualcomm's technology by 2027, Bloomberg said.
-- A representative for the Cupertino, Calif., company declined to comment to Bloomberg.
