FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - After a weak start to the week, the DAX is likely to make slight gains on Wednesday. Broker IG calculated the leading German index 0.2 percent higher at 19,462 points a good two hours before the Xetra start. The previous week's record of just under 19,675 points and the 20,000-point mark thus remain close.

According to chart expert Martin Utschneider from Finanzethos, on Wednesday the DAX will have to try to return to the short-term upward trend that began in August and which it fell just short of the previous day. At the same time, however, he emphasized that the leading index is in the overarching medium-term chart and market-technical upward trend.

The previous day, SAP's positive reaction to convincing figures was unable to prevent the Dax from sliding into negative territory. The reporting season continues on Wednesday with figures from Deutsche Bank and its fund subsidiary DWS./tih/jha/
