The Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) has launched a formal investigation into Telia following a serious security breach, according to a statement released by the regulator.

The vulnerability made it possible to track the location of certain customers through simple phone calls. While Telia reports that the flaw has now been rectified, Nkom views the incident with gravity and intends to investigate the circumstances of the breach and how similar occurrences can be prevented in the future.

The regulator has also requested that Telenor and Ice disclose whether they are susceptible to similar vulnerabilities.

Nkom emphasized that the incident risks undermining public confidence in digital communications.
