Ireland's exports to the U.S. surged in 2025 despite a rise in tariffs, led by sales of pharmaceuticals including key ingredients for weight-loss treatments.
The country's statistics agency Tuesday said exports to the U.S. rose to 111.7 billion euros from 73.5 billion euros in 2024, an increase of 52% to reach their highest-ever level.
As a result, Ireland accounted for a fifth of all European Union exports to the U.S., despite its small size. Figures released Friday showed European exports to the world's largest economy rose in 2025, despite President Trump's decision to impose sharply higher tariffs on imports from the bloc.
The Central Statistics Office said total exports of medical and pharmaceutical products rose to 138.6 billion euros in 2025 from 99.7 billion euros in 2024, an increase of 39%.
"More than half of all goods exported in 2025 were medical and pharmaceutical products," said Jane Burmanje, a statistician at the CSO.
