(Alliance News) - Following the rejection of the CIPESS resolution in October and the publication of the reasoning yesterday, the consortium responsible for constructing the Strait of Messina Bridge on Friday called for action from the Italian government.
"The Eurolink Consortium acknowledges the observations made and reiterates its full confidence in the prompt and decisive action of the Government, as already announced." In a statement released Friday, the general contractor commented on the publication of the Court of Auditors' reasoning, which resulted in the temporary halt of the project.
"The Consortium," the statement reads, "confirms its willingness to continue a constructive dialogue with all parties involved in order to proceed with the commencement of work, which will have an immediate impact on employment in Southern Italy and across the entire country."
According to the Court of Auditors, the project would violate the 1992 Habitats Directive, disregard regulations on public procurement, and lacks transparency regarding the proposed toll system.
