The Bureau of Labor Statistics will release its September consumer-inflation data later this month despite the government shutdown, the agency confirmed Friday.

The September CPI report, originally scheduled for publication next week, will be published on Friday, Oct. 24 at 8:30 a.m. ET, the BLS said. The data were originally scheduled for next week, but the federal budget impasse left the BLS without funding and sent its staff home. Workers have been recalled to facilitate the report's release about a week late, however, because the September inflation numbers are important for calculating cost-of-living adjustments that determine social-security benefits.

In a statement, the BLS said that the September pricing data will remain an exception and that it won't publish any other data until the shutdown is resolved.

The shutdown has already delayed other major economic releases, including the September jobs report which was skipped last Friday.
